To create a new certificate template

1. Open Certificate Templates.
2. Right-click the template to copy from and then click Duplicate Template.
3. Type a new name for this certificate template.
4. Make any necessary changes and click OK.

Notes

• To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Enterprise Admins group or the root domain's Domain Admins group in Active Directory. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
• To open Certificate Templates, click Start, click Run, type certtmpl.msc, and then press Enter.
• New certificate templates must be created by copying an existing template and using the existing template's properties as the default for the new template. Copy the existing certificate template closest to the configuration of the intended new template to minimize the work necessary.
• Although Version 2 templates can be created and duplicated in XOX, certificates based on Version 2 templates can only be issued by a certification authority running XOX, or XOX.
